For centuries, Munnar has beckoned tourists to its high mountains, deep valleys, gushing waterfalls and sprawling tea gardens. The National Geographic Traveler Magazine has ranked it among the top 10 tourist destinations.
Munnar or Moonu Aaru gets its name from its location, at the confluence of three mountain streams. The town abounds in exotic wildlife and clear trout streams. The flower, Neelakurinji, literally bathes the hills in blue when in full bloom, once in 12 years – the next bloom: 2018.
Fondly known as the “Tea Country,” Munnar is popular among honeymooners, trekkers, photography enthusiasts, and just about anyone seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. The fresh aroma of tea leaves and the cool, crisp and clean air will rejuvenate even a stubborn, tired body.
Munnar is best experienced on foot. When you trek through miles and miles of every imaginable shade of green blanket of tea plantation in mist-shrouded hills, one really appreciates the wonders of Mother Nature.
Munnar enjoys a pleasant weather throughout the year. The best season to travel there is from August to May. June and July is for the adventurous, on the look for torrential rains – well over 100 inches at this time of the year.
Magical Munnar is truly a photographer’s delight. We’ll let the pictures tell the story.
