Mercy of Allah

“When the Help of Allah comes and victory” are the beginning words of one of the last surahs or chapters in the Qur’aan. The “Help of Allah” is needed by everyone in this life in order for a person to achieve success. It is from the “Mercy of Allah” that He aides the believers and disbelievers in this world. He has given everyone a path to paradise in his or her own life to make this journey back to Him a clear one. The path begins with the correct belief in Allah and then following the way of His last Prophet and Messenger Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) son of Abdullah who was born in Makkah in the year 570 of the Christian era.

Sometimes following this path entails varying degrees of toil and struggle and sometimes it is merely a matter of self control and focus on the things in life that are important and pleasing to Allah. There have been cases where the person’s return to Allah occurred almost immediately after converting or reverting to Islam. Other cases have merely been a matter of a person humbly following a part of Islaam that may not have seemed very noteworthy. While his or her actions were unknown or thought lightly by others, they were indeed very important in the sight of Allah.

This brings to mind one of the companions or Sahabahs of the Messenger of Allah (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him). This Sahabah was not one of the legions of well known personalities from the many companions of Rasulullah (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him). While this companion was not very well known, he had achieved a status during his lifetime that every Muslim of his time, male and female longed for. What was this special attainment of our respected brother? The Prophet himself (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) had told others that this companion would attain the Jannah, the garden known also as paradise.

After hearing about this, a young companion made up a pretext for staying with this exalted brother for a few days so that he might find out the reason why the Prophet had said he would attain paradise. He diligently observed his actions and practices during this time. The young companion did not notice anything about the companion that seemed exceedingly exemplary or noteworthy.
At the end of the three days the young companion told his host why he had wanted to spend some time with him. He asked him what did he do that was so special that the Messenger of Allah (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) had given him the glad tidings of paradise. He was told that he never went to bed at night harboring bad feelings or ill will about any Muslim. This being the case, all Muslims held a dear place in his heart. How many people are so far away from attaining this worthy goal that is in and of itself a very simple concept but is oh so very difficult to achieve!
